Above, John McCarthy with the seven area high school students from Middlebury, Seymour, Southbury, and Woodbury chosen to visit Washington, DC, in June as part of the 2nd Annual Washington, DC Intern Program sponsored by the Middlebury, Seymour, Southbury, and Woodbury Democratic Town Committees.

The group met their representatives in Congress, viewed Congress in session, toured the Capitol, and visited various monuments and other points of interest. They were also treated to a visit to the US State Department (a "briefing"), which was arranged with the assistance of Ambassador McCarthy; the State Department has been officially closed to such tours since the September 11, 2001 attack.
